Feature Teaser

In lieu of our new server being up and you all enjoying a better, stronger, faster Newshutch (sorry about the delay), how about a screen shot of user interface features I’ve been working on?

Can you spot the updates? I’ll give one away because I don’t want anybody to freak out: Independently scrolling panes. Yes it’s an option and not a default, and yes, it’s done with style sheets and javascript instead of icky frames.

Screenshot of coming Newshutch features

I’m not sure when these will roll out, our first priority is to get back to “fast” with all previous features re-enabled.

I agree with Erasable Ink,flagging is my most desired feature at the moment and I’m glad to see it’s coming.

Not interested in the scrolling doohicky but collapsible categories is high on my wish list. That’s very cool.

I only signed up for this service yesterday but so far I am liking it a lot. Thanks

Hmmm, Im not convinced. This could be feature overload for me. I though Newshutch was pretty much perfect as it is. Maybe there should be an option to have all the features turned off or something? Or to be able to enable somefeatures and not others?

These new features are looking great!

Keep up the excellent work, this really is an amazing service.

Collapsible categories? Mmm. Only I wish you would put a (22) beside it, for how many new entries you have to read in that category.

Make sure you don’t forget to update your screenshot on the features page: http://www.newshutch.com/login/features

nogg3er5, don’t worry about feature overload. We’re very careful about it, and any features we do add won’t intrude on the user experience. We don’t want anyone to think about features until they want to.

Erasable, good call. I’m glad I only used one screenshot :)

Might I reccommend that you keep the “keep unread” checkbox and the “mark as read” button side by side considering related their function, and move the flag somewhere else. Doesn’t makes sense to split up the “read/unread” stuff with a different feature.

Been using for just under a week and so far, I love it. Great job!

New features look good too. I know you probably will start getting a plethora of feature requests, but have you considered an ‘open next category’ button that would live where the other ‘open next’ ‘mark as read’ etc. buttons live?

I suggest this because my list in the left side already extends well past the fold…

    Just a thought.

    Thanks!

Dave, the coming independently scrolling panes options should address that for you.

    about scrolling bars:

I think it’s great. Just one thing: could you leave the posts’ “head” (the “mark read”… functions) out of the scrolling element, so you do not have to scroll up, after reading some of the posts?

Anyway we can NOT see the “Are you a first time user” screen every time we log in???

Adam, it should go away on its own eventually. How many times have you logged in?

@Mark…brilliant. That would keep the ‘mark all’ button somewhere handy. The posts could just scroll up under the header.

The flagging sounds kinda cool…I’m wondering how that will work. Yeah, so I’ve flagged it, what happens to it?

Those scroll bars are so ugly!!!!! Im not convinced that there a good idea. Cant you just make the left hand section move magically up and down the page when you scroll?!?!?
