Look Ma! We’re on the Web 2.0 Show podcast

Podcast iconDoug and I were interviewed by Josh Owens and Chris Saylor of the Web 2.0 Show. They typically have high caliber guests, so it was a real thrill to be on their show.

A little “behind the scenes” trivia: In the original interview there was something of an awkward pause at about 17:05 after I go on an anti social software feature creep mini-rant, but Josh and Chris thankfully edited the awkward pause out. What I really meant to say was that instead of making tagging, tag clouds, friend groups, and all that stuff central to the Newshutch experience, we want to use the principles of social software in subtle ways. For example we could use categories as “tags” and “flagged” entries in interesting ways without explicitly making Newshutch a “social software” application.

Other highlights include Doug getting into the nitty gritty technical side of Newshutch, and me waxing ecstatic about how great it is to not have a boss. Many thanks to Josh and Chris. They were a lot of fun to talk to and excellent hosts.

Enjoy!

    Hey,

It was a great interview, I am glad we were able to do it! I must say, I think that is the first time someone recorded the interview on their end :P . Impressive.

We didn’t record it, I just remembered the pause because after I said all that, on the “Web 2.0 Show” no less, Doug and I looked and each other and shared a silent “good going jackass”. :)

Great interview! It’s been fun to hear you guys talking about Newshutch!

And no, you don’t sound (too much) like a hippie Nathan ;-)

Nice to see the site and everything’s going well. We talked at startup school a few times so it’s good to see you that you guys have not only launched but that you’ve gotten some good press.

I enjoyed the podcast - it was interesting to hear you guys talk about Newshutch. I understand how you guys are keeping it simple by not wanting a cluttered mess of options and features, and I am totally for that, but would it be terribly difficult to incorporate a checkbox option to “Open links in a new window”? I understand that you guys probably have priority with your additions, and it might be based on popularity, but I think that would be a very useful option. I hate to leave this wonderful interface when I click on outside links - I’d like FF to just open a new tab for me, so I never have to leave this one :) Either way, I’ll continue using Newshutch - it’s the best I’ve seen so far!

I need to apologize for not looking into the matter a littl more. I just noticed on your homepage (Tips) to hold ctrl or use the mouse wheel when clicking links - that’s a perfect solution to my problem! It just makes me love it even more. Sorry for requesting an already in place feature.

I first heard about Newshutch on the Web 2.0 Show. And I am glad I decided to listen to that episode of the Podcast! Since I had originally thought to skip that episode, but I am so glad I did not!

If I had done that I whould never have found Newshutch and I would not found a service I love this much! And I do love you guys! I hate the Opera kinks, but other than that Newshucht is a great service.

It was by listening to this podcast that I found out about Newshutch. 10 minutes later, I had switched from the Flock RSS feedreader (too slow) to your service. Now I mention how great and aesthetic this service is in every presentation I give. Congratulations on a perfect product. Also, I like the “add to Newshutch” button.

    Sweet.

Like Todd, I discovered you guys from this podcast. I’ve switched over from Newsgator and find I’m keeping up on my RSS feeds much better with it. Great work.

Guys, what you’d say about Newshutch vs. NewsAlloy in terms of set of features and usability?
