I just purchased a dedicated machine from www.rimuhosting.com - so far I have been pleased with the service.

We also looked at www.engineyard.com and the new www.mediatemple.net grid server offering. I'm excited about the prospect of grid server, but since it's new I didn't want to take a chance with their teething issues affecting my product launch.

I think A2 Web Hosting will be good for you considering the fact that they are handling heavy traffic sites as 43folders.com. Check them out.

As for dedicated, I would take a look at the LayeredTech.com guys, they have a million options and a great price/performance ratio.

Also, I'd consider perhaps the new "Grid" system from mediatemple, it looks really interesting. Perhaps you could use a few of their 1GB Rails "containers"?, that would be considerably below $400/month though.

There is also EngineYard.com if you wanting superb scalability, redundancy etc, though the price point might be too much.

I recommend superb ( http://superbservers.net/ ). The company is large enough to offer great rates and services, but small enough to care about each individual customer. I spoke with Bill Gorman, their chief sales guy - he was able to answer all questions clearly and immediately. I never had to wade through a phone support maze with this company.

I had a horrible experience with EV1. They took my machine down 3 times in the first week due to clear irresponsibility, resulting in about 50% downtime. They refused to give me any credit to my bill.

Good luck, and thanks for a great service!

I have used oneandone.com and they are great.

Godaddy has hosting that is not expensive. I have used them also with much success. You have a great product here, so email me if you would like some help.

I'm not sure if they can forfill your needs. But I would give my hand for <a href="http://www.mediatemple.net/" title="(mt) Media Temple" / rel="nofollow">(mt) Media Temple. Just send them an email with your following questions. No harm done in that..

Where I work we use Rackspace. They're not cheap but are rock solid. If you're doing anything off the beaten path they will tend to make a point of saying it's not a "supported configuration", but have always been happy to help out with problems and queries anyway. My only complaint would be their over-enthusiastic support messages, which usually contain about 15 exclamation marks per paragraph ;)

Scott, under $400/month for two dedicated boxes would be nice. I've been a fan of http://www.deviantart.com/ for a while btw :)

I don't think we'll need any help with setup, but thanks for the offer Josh. I've been looking EV1 since you recommended them a while back. Our current host is just lame, mostly due to random loss of connectivity that we can't get a straight explanation for. Depending on who you talk to it's a DOS attack, a blown router, or gremlins.

You know, probably the number one feature I want is a web page or feed hosted off site that shows network status so I don't have to freaking call just to find out what's happening. A company blog that talks about hosting stuff would be really nice too. This is something that Dreamhost does really well.

Nathan,

Steelpixel can do dedicated servers. We use EV1 for all our needs, we would be happy to manage that for you, or just help you get it up and running. We have also worked with Server Beach in the past. We are up to speed on Rails hosting, and we can setup anything from lighty + fcgi, to lighty + pen + mongrel. We also know MySQL, SVN, etc.

And of course we podcast, as you know :P

Railsmachine. They are amazing. I could not be happy with their service thus far. Plus, their deploy gem is a gem. :)
